Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System

,
Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System
  • Once you realize, Home-Theatres-In-A-Box (HTIBs) just won't do because their sound quality is mediocre at best, you realize that separate speakers and AV receivers run the gamut from reasonably expensive to unbelievable. And buying 7 speakers and a subwoofer can quickly cost you over $2000 dollars. When I was looking at putting together a home theatre system, I wanted an AV receiver with future compatibility that was also fully featured (I settled on the Onkyo TX-SR605). For speakers, I wanted reasonably priced quality. Despite the fact that these speakers were originally part of a HTIB they are of surprisingly good quality for the price. The Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 speakers are neither stylish nor…
  • In general, I've been very happy with the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Surround Speaker System. I selected them out of sheer laziness to match the Onkyo receiver that I bought around the same time, expecting them to be best matched to Onkyo equipment. I primarily use the equipment in a home theater, which doubles as a part-time family room for watching TV.For clarity of sound, I have never owned better speakers. Unlike with my older Infinity speakers, I can hear each and every sound and understand what people are saying even at low volume levels. My only complaint is that the bass response seems to be a bit weaker than I would expect. The subwoofer doesn't produce quite the power I anticipated without…

  • Easy to hook up and works as advertised, now I can feel the music and live the movies! Splitter is included so you can connect subwoofer/speakers. Well worth the money.
  • I was a bit skeptical about this product even after reading the numerous positive reviews, but after a few hours of gameplay, I am a very happy customer. I really didn't understand how this product relayed the vibration, but after attaching it securely to an underside bar on my Playseat, it works perfectly by transferring vibrations throughout the entire seat. I am now encompassed by low-end rumble every time a certain amount of bass is detected by the unit. Probably the best effect so far is the awesome feel of firing a shotgun in a game... BOOM! The only drawback to the system is the amplifier/control unit itself, which is much larger than I expected. Don't let the out-of-scale pictures fool…

Sony STRDH830 Sony 3D 7.1 Channel A/V Receivers()
  • set up was easy, but the reason i knocked off a star is their was no calibratin mic in the box, so i used one from my last receiver that i replaced it with, just set it up today and so far so good.
  • Good unit, not too hard to learn if you can read the little book. Does have onscreen GUI mode, but no overlay. Bidirectional HDMI works well with Sharp TV. Turn off TV and receiver goes off too.WARNING: When working with HDMI turn off everything when you plug and unplug cables. If you don't things go black. The automated calibration and set up is easy with the included mic.Sony PS3 was easy to hook up and works well with the new Amazon Prime Instant Video. Great HD Video.

Bose Virtually Invisible® 191 speakers

Bose Virtually Invisible® 191 speakers
  • Below is my initial review of these speakers. It's still basically true, but as the frustration with the initial install has faded, my estimation of the speakers has risen (a little). What seemed a thin and limited sound at the time now seems very clean. Just with very little bass compared to some other speakers. When things break on install, you do have to wonder, "who's fault was it, really...". I'll just say that the other speakers I bought at the same time had a much heavier set of clips...----------I am extremely disappointed with these speakers. If you read the product description carefully, you are basically getting a pair of smallish 2.5 in drivers / speakers which are only…
  • sound O.K. need more base. don't buy if you don't have sub woofer. at $200 a pair is fair to buy, $300 is little too much. You can get better pair at this price.

JBL Northridge N24AWII 2-Way, 4" Weather-Resistant Bookshelf Speakers with Brackets - Off White (Pair)
  • *I have the black pair of these speakers, so I cannot comment on the appearance or finish on the white set*I bought these speakers several years ago to be used as outdoor wall-mounted speakers. They worked out very well for almost a year outside before I took them down and brought them inside due to noise ordinance issues. The sound outside was very good, and handled medium to medium-loud volumes without any trouble, even with the speaker wire running perhaps 40-50 feet. Mounted outside, these speakers dispersed sound very well and I was often asked where the speakers were because the sound seemed to be all around.I pretty much forgot about these speakers for a few years, and then found myself…
  • I use these speaker for surrounds in my 5.1 Home Theater system, they are paired with JBL E30 front satellites, JBL E C35 center, JBL E 250P sub, and a Yamaha RX-V767 AV receiver/amp.Great highs - treble is detailed, clear and crisp, midbass is punchy for 4" woolfer, and the midrange is clear and clean; imaging is also good. I have a JBL E250 sub and have not listened to these on their own (full range) so I don't know about bass response/output.I bought these to match (timbre) the rest of JBL Northridge E speakers in my 5.1 surround system and becuase of the off-white color to make them blend in more with walls/celling, plus they come with mounting hardware. These make great surround sound…

Sherwood RX-4503 2 x 100 Watt RMS Dolby Virtual Surround Sound Receiver (Black)
  • I bought this to replace a failing 12 year old Sony receiver. I don't care about surround sound, but required speaker A/B and subwoofer. It was well packed for shipping and was easy to set up. The FM receiver has better sensitivity than the old Sony, and the sound is as good or better. Not alot of settings, which for me is fine. I really don't need sound processing that makes my music sound like I'm in a cave, prefer my playback to be as close to the recording as possible. It has the minimum needed and works well. If you happen to have classic Vinyl albums, then be sure to get a phono preamp.Had it for almost a month and everything is fine. I gave the reliability five stars because so far it…
  • I'd like to have a shuttle feature but this is the unit I purchased. Also would like A/C outlet incorporated to be able to plug CD player into the receiver. However, perfectly adequate for my unsophisticated tastes. Have had it for only three weeks.

Pyle P3001AT 3000W Hybrid Pre Amplifier with AM/FM Tuner

,
Pyle P3001AT 3000W Hybrid Pre Amplifier with AM/FM Tuner
  • Ok to start right out of the box it has a great weight to it but when you hook it up it really shows its colors. When i first hooked it up i had to let the speakers go through the break-in time, it sounded clearly at low levels, after about 7 hours i decided to see if it could handle the speakers I bought(1400watts,700RMS) and it performed perfect. I have had the pre-amp for about 4 months and its still holding up and i play guitar hero with it crancked up everyday. So if anything happends i will update but i would highly recommend this to anybody looking to build a good home stereo.
  • I actually burned up the first 1 in 5 days. Returned it and got a 2nd that was defective right out of the box. But when the first 1 was working I loved it so I sent the 2nd one to Pyle service center and they refurbished it for me and sent it back. If you want bang for your buck this is the receiver for you !!!!

,
JBL SP8CII 2-Way, Round 8-Inch In-Ceiling Speaker with Swivel Mount Tweeter (Pair)
  • I bought these speakers on JBL's ebay store. They were remanufactured and I got them for a steal. I bid on my speakers and got them for under $100 for the PAIR! Installation is easy once you get the speaker cable run and they sound fantastic. I was planning on getting a powered subwoofer to run off of my harmon/kardon receiver, but I really don't need it. They have plenty of bass response and the mids and highs are crystal clear. I especially like how you can swivel the tweeters to achieve optimum staging.
  • I installed a pair of these in my master bathroom and the sound is incredible! I have them hooked up to my HK Receiver and the sound is crisp and the bass is solid. In my opinion, I can not imagine a better set of ceiling speakers out there. These speakers also have movable tweeter cones so you can point the highs directly where you want them to go. I highly recommend.

  • Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)The Martin Logan 10 speakers are fantastic - clear and powerful at any volume. My home theater setup is a 550w yamaha receiver, a JBL subwoofer, and two Martin Logan 10s to go with my projector/htpc source. I typically use this media room to watch movies or football/basketball, and these speakers are ideal for either use.I also listen to many genres of music, and couldn't be happier with the delicate, clear sound provided by the speakers. My sister brought over a recording of her performance in the university's orchestra (Rachmaninov), and the whole family gathered around to listen. We turned off the subwoofer to avoid muddling the…

,
Onkyo HTX-22HDX Ultra-Compact HD Home Theater System (Black)
  • There are plenty of good reviews here, so I would only add that this Onkyo is more than powerful for BIG rooms. I have it on a 17x34 feet (5x10 meters) room, and it sounds perfectly, so, unless you are some kind of king, it should be enough.
  • Bought this for a vacation home which has large flat screen TV and Blue Ray player. Didn't really want 5 speakers and/or receiver due to space limitations. The unit is small but full featured. Sound is more than adequate for movies and regular TV. To augment a flat screen TV and hook up to the DVD player, this unit is a great fit. Cost is in line with similar quality items although there is no real direct competitor that I have seen.

Coby DVD938 5.1-Channel DVD Home Theater System (Black)

,
Coby DVD938 5.1-Channel DVD Home Theater System (Black)
  • The sound is mostly what I bought this for, since most LCD TVs have weak or poor sound. I've been pleased with the audio quality, but the AM/FM receiver is very weak. I ended up supplementing it with an FM antenna just to be able to get some stations that didn't sound like 30-70% static. The DVD player is also poor. Dark scenes cause my screen to flicker as the player is somehow not transmitting a true black to my TV properly (this doesn't happen with dark scenes on cable, so it's not the TV). I'll probably end up buying a DVD player to supplement this, which means that I'll have spent a minimum of an extra $80 between the FM antenna & DVD player supplementation. If you're looking for an…
  • Are you kidding me? The product description says "Plays digital media files directly from USB drives and SD memory cards." What it doesn't say is that if you're using an MP3 player or an SD card of MP3 files, the unit won't recognize it. I bought this for the specific purpose of playing MP3s from my Walkman through my home stereo. As popular as MP3s are today, how can they make a unit that doesn't play them? Unbelievable. It's going back tomorrow.

Pioneer VSX921K 7.1-Channel 3D Ready AV Receiver - Black

,
Pioneer VSX921K 7.1-Channel 3D Ready AV Receiver - Black
  • I bought this to replace a 3 year old Onkyo that died from a bad HDMI circuit. The most impressive thing about it is how cool it runs while still delivering sound that is every bit as refined (to my ears) as the more expensive and much more power hungry Onkyo. But the main problem with this thing is the lousy user interface. I know that UI probably isn't your first concern when it comes to a receiver, but companies like Apple have raised the bar on this, and when you get a UI that would have been substandard in 1995 (no exaggeration), it's hard not to be disappointed. The on-screen display is black-and-white, text-only, all caps and fixed width, and it FLICKERS to boot (on my 1080p display at…

Sony SA-W2500 Performance Line 100 Watt Subwoofer
  • If you're thinking about buying a subwoofer, it is unlikely that you are a garden variety movie fan or lover of music. People looking for subwoofers usually already have a decent system, but know that there is something lacking. When it came for me to buy one, three factors weighed in my decision: power, brand, and (of course) price. I've grown up with what I have always believed to be a 'healthy skepticism' when it comes to Sony products. My father had an early generation (1990ish) 5.0 Sony 250 Watt surround amp that performed extremely poorly in just about every function. The only advantage it had over his earlier (1978) Rotel non-tube amp is that it had multiple component inputs. The sound…
  • This piece completes my 5.1 system, all Sony. This thing can overpower the rest of the system, but sounds GREAT once it's dialed in. Power saver feature and active adjustable amp and crossover are key. I'm using the sub input with the amp set to about 2/3 and the crossover blocking some of the higher frequencies from coming through it. Music is great, movies are even better.

  • I admit that I've only used it to listen to a couple records and play around with the radio turner so far, but I'm still impressed. Great look, great sound, great buy! :)
  • CAN'T BELIEVE! RAD CHOICE SOUND! ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR 33'S NOT MISSING THE 1/3 PLAY SO IF YOUR CLASSIC COLLECTION CONTAINES SOME OF THESE YOUR GOING TO BE GLAD THIS IS NOT MISSING, WITHOUT THE 1/3 PLAY THEY JUST DON'T SOUND RIGHT, SO THIS IS THE ONLY FOR THIS SPECIFICALLY CAUSE 33'S ARE ALMOST EXTINCT.
