Sony ICFS79W AM/FM/Weather Band Digital Tuner Shower Radio (White)

,
Sony ICFS79W AM/FM/Weather Band Digital Tuner Shower Radio (White)
  • A shower radio that actually gets great reception! The design is a little clutzy, especially the hanger clips, but the number of stations that I can listen to makes up for a few external design issues.
  • This sony radio is a good shower radio and clock. It has an external antenna that suction cups to the wall. There are a few parts of this design to note that make this a good product, not a great one. First, the radio has a strap that clips on the back and while hanging, it does not lay completely flat. Second, it takes C batteries and three of them. They are generally sold in packs on two or four and they are not included. Third, the buttons are on top. Style-wise this is a good decision, but because the radio needs to be high enough to see the clock, it makes it more difficult to see the buttons. There is a sleep timer built in to the on button. It would be great if I did not have to push the…

Sylvania SDVD8732 7-Inch Dual Screen Portable DVD Player with Built In 3.5 Hour Battery Life and USB/SD Card Reader

,
Sylvania SDVD8732 7-Inch Dual Screen Portable DVD Player with Built In 3.5 Hour Battery Life and USB/SD Card Reader
  • This is a good portable DVD player, I bought it not cause I wanted to use DVD's in it but rather to load movies on the SD card. The player really seems cheaply built, the tray's ejector is too strong for the clip holding it so one side sticks out a bit and sometimes it says the tray is open. (Can be an issue while driving as bumps in the road will force that warning)No one ever listed the optimal screen resolution and video container after much trial and error I will post what I found as the best settings in my opinion.AVI FormatXVID CodecMP3 Audio outputScreen resolution can be no higher then: (Pixels) 640 H × W 360 This give the best screen resolution.
  • It hits all of the major bullet points that we were looking for, and I couldn't find anything else that did.-Battery powered-Plays from SD Card-Has mounting system for car-Dual screenAs other reviewers have mentioned, it really could use some documentation on the types of video it plays back. After a bunch of trial and error, I found the following:-Does not playback h264.-Recognizes .avi and .mp4.-Will play xvid through .avi container.-I couldn't get the .mpg extensions to work, but other folks said they could. Not sure what setting I had wrong.-Needs to be widescreen (720x480). Other sizes refuse to play-MPEG4 through a .mp4 container works. AAC audio works. 1200 bitrate works, but I suspect…

SONOS CONNECT:AMP Wireless Streaming Music System with Amplifier for Speakers (ZonePlayer120)

,
SONOS CONNECT:AMP Wireless Streaming Music System with Amplifier for Speakers (ZonePlayer120)
  • The Sonos system has to be one of the very best home electronic systems available. It is simple to install and use and has very high wife appreciation value. Get it
  • When we built our house, we installed speakers throughout (~45 speakers counting indoors and outdoors), but (long story short) we never setup a sound system. So, we've had these speakers in the ceiling with nothing coming through them. I've wanted to setup whole house audio for a long time, but wasn't sure what to use. I'm the type that researches and researches before I buy, and I've been researching this for a couple years, but I couldn't get comfortable with a solution. I've looked at SONOS a couple times, but just wasn't sure. I finally pulled the trigger and bought SONOS. To give you some background on my house, it's a 2-story with about 5,000 SF of conditioned space. I have a central closet…

Yamaha RX-V673 7.2-Channel Network AV Receiver

,
Yamaha RX-V673 7.2-Channel Network AV Receiver
  • I just spent a few hours installing this receiver. The problem is that the zone 2 output (using RCA jacks) into my NUVO Concerto whole house audio has VERY low volume. This is not a problem with any other sources (iPhone direct through headphone jack, DVD player direct, Hughes HR 20 DVR, etc...). I understand that the volume level is FIXED when output to zone 2 through RCA jacks. I know that I can control using the NUVO amp, but the signal is so light that even at max volume the sound output is very low and of course distorted at that high level. I hope I misunderstand something because, if this is a design flaw, it is a showstopper for me. Will update with what I hear from Yamaha.Update 6/23: Yamaha service has told me that this zone output, as spec'd at 200mV / 1.2k ohms is not compatible with my zone 2. Interestingly, they have upped the output voltage to 1V on the Aventege RX-A1020. A 5x increase. So if you need to drive an input to another integrated amp, may want to consider this…

Composite AV Video/USB Cable for Apple iPod, iPhone, iPad (6 feet)

,
Composite AV Video/USB Cable for Apple iPod, iPhone, iPad (6 feet)
  • I've plugged this cable into the following devices and got the same error: "Not Compatible"iPhone 3GiPhone 3GSiPod Touch 4th GeniPad (Ver 1)No video is output from either of the three devices. No iTunes video, no NetFlix, nothing.Audio output does work, but if you wish to charge while playing music, you'll get a low static noise when power is running through the USB.
  • I found the price attractive as an alternative to the Apple one. However, two caveats:- USB and other connectors cannot be more 20 inches / 30 cm away from each of them (so your TV composite entry should be very close to a power socket.- when the cable is connected to the audio output and the power socket but the iPad unplugged, you have a loud noise going in the audio, signed of a poor shielding of the cable.

Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System (Set of Six, Black)

,
Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System (Set of Six, Black)
  • I recently plunged into the HD market -- bought a Samsung LCD (A550), a Sony Blu-ray player (350 model), an Onkyo TX-SR606, and these speakers. I did tons of research on TVs, BDPs, receivers, and speakers. I found 3 audio/video websites that had reviewed the Energy speakers. Google "Energy 5.1 Take Classic review" and you'll find them.Aside from what the reviews say, I fell in love with these speakers for their elegantly simple design (they look great with my TV). They are nothing flashy, and since I've owned them (about 6 months now), none of my friends have commented on my "cool-looking speakers." But they HAVE commented on the sound. They sound very fresh, alive, and well-rounded.…
  • I bought this with an Onkyo TX-SR606 reciever. I could not be more pleased. I am not an audio expert, but I listen to enough music to know the difference between bad and good speakers. These are excellent.Pros: Nice looking black piano finish, perfect sound, easy to setup and install, nice clean bass. The speakers are so clear my dog thinks the doorbell is ringing for real when I am watching TV.Cons: None

Polk Audio Atrium 4 Speakers (Pair, Black)

,
Polk Audio Atrium 4 Speakers (Pair, Black)
  • For $100 these are some pretty good overall outdoor speakers. I had a pair of JBL outdoors that developed some buzzing and pops so I needed a replacement and I went with these. For reference, every other speaker I own (except for a pair in the garage) is JBL, this was my first Polk experience.Generally speaking they are a solid set of speakers. They give a pretty balanced sound all around but lack a little fullness in the lower mid-range. This is particularly noticeable when playing orchestral type music like film scores or piano heavy music. Going from the lower mids to bass is where they really start to have trouble. For the size of the speaker I certainly wasn't expecting to really "feel"…
  • I have had a "total" sound system in my home for more than 10 years - a set of Bose indoor speakers in each of three rooms; a set of Bose outdoor speakers in the eaves over my front door and another set in my outdoor screen room; and a set of Cerwin Vega "bookshelf" speakers in my TV/entertainment room. Just today, I added a set of Polk Audio Atrium 4 speakers to the system in order to pipe sound (satellite TV/DVD/CD)to an arbor swing located about 50 feet from the back of my house. I must say, I am impressed. The Polk Audio Atrium 4s sound every bit as good as the Bose speakers (if not better), and the quality of their construction appears outstanding. As this is the the…

Denon AVR-1312 5.1 Channel A/V Home Theater Receiver

,
Denon AVR-1312 5.1 Channel A/V Home Theater Receiver
  • You won't find a cheaper 5.1 550W receiver that has 4 HDMI inputs, is 3D ready, and is iPod ready. Very pleased with my purchase! Was looking for a cheap solution to hook up my 2 floor-standing JBL speakers, my 42in. Panasonic Plasma, PS3, and AT&T Uverse cable.HDMI is the only way to go!
  • I had actually bought this unit to replace a similar Pioneer model, (lightning had fried the HDMI inputs *sigh*) I went ahead and purchased one based on the reviews here.Let me start by saying that I am not one of those reviewers who give terrible ratings because the unit came late or was scratched or I felt shafted for some other dumb reason, when reviews should be about the products. I also wish to add I have a little experience and am not a total airhead when it comes to these things, having installed/connected loads of Flat screens on walls and run basic setups for friends and family. This review is about MY experience and I am guessing that I must be in the minority based on the other reviews…

Marantz NR1602 AV Receiver

,
Marantz NR1602 AV Receiver
  • I'm an ordinary consumer who tries to buy quality at a good price, while thinking about each component of an AV system. I believe receivers have two functions: (1) sound and video processing that is high-quality, and (2) plenty of clean, uncolored sound. I suppose that in the 70s and 80s you could not get this in a receiver (you needed separate receivers and amplifier) but today's technology is much, much better. This unit has not disappointed in either case. First, its sound and audio processing are first-class, even when using the new Dolby front-height setup. Second, and most important, the clean power it puts out is amazing. It is fifty watts per channel but remains absolutely clear and non-colored…
  • This receiver is great. I haven't done much with the network stuff on it so I can't speak to that. However it sounds great, clean, and I like the multi-source, multi-zone capability. I configured mine 5.1 in the house and 2 outdoor speakers on the other side of the wall. This ability to configure this way and the slimness was the main reason for my purchase and I'm very satisified with it. I can get through the menu's and configuration, it does have almost an overwelming menu, but that gives you many details you can configure which I appreciate. I love the ability to configure the HDMI pass through, and it allows you to configure only 1 source, or whichever was the last source selected. Worked…

NuForce Dia Black Digital Input Amplifier

,
NuForce Dia Black Digital Input Amplifier
  • to hook this to your apple airport express or apple tv (new one)....use this: Recoton Fiber Optic Toslink to 3.5mm Mini Adapterwhich is available right here on amazon.coma previous reviewer stated that belkin makes the only cable for this unit. that is absurd.with this adaptor, you can use ANY standard toslink optical cable to run between these two items........
  • I originally contacted Nuforce to ask if they had a product that would be a simple bridge between the upcoming iCloud Match service and speakers. I had previously thought of getting an Apple TV but since I have TiVo it would have been somewhat redundant (Netflix). The iCloud is 256 Kbps and the upgrade in quality, matched by a high quality Nuforce DAC feeding a pair of excellent bookshelf speakers seemed like a high fidelity approach to a home system that would fit my small living room and serve TV, PS3, TiVo and Airport Express iCloud feed. I had already bought Nuforce's Icon HDP headphone amp for my computer workstation so I was happy with their quality.Bottom line is that the audio quality…

Yamaha RX-V471BL 5.1-Channel AV Receiver

,
Yamaha RX-V471BL 5.1-Channel AV Receiver
  • I had an Onkyo TX-DS494 for 10yrs, & I finally decided to upgrade so I would have HDMI inputs as well as decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio. I thought I would go with the Onkyo TX-NR509 since I loved my previous one. What a mistake, Onkyo quality has really taken a nose dive. I had to return 2 of them for the same issue of the HDMI standby pass-through feature not working. I was only getting a picture and no sound with the receiver off. Onkyo's phone support was a nightmare. So after a lot of research I settled on this Yamaha RX-V471. I could not be happier, setup was very easy because of the on-screen display, the YPAO…
  • I owned the 367 model receiver and loved it. I wanted to stick wth a Yamaha receiver when I upgraded to HDMI full 1080p connections. I really liked the on-screen set-up programming. This receiver works great and makes switching between sources so easy. I highly recommend any of the Yamaha surround sound receivers.

Sangean H201 AM/FM Digital Shower Radio

,
Sangean H201 AM/FM Digital Shower Radio
  • A couple of years ago my wife bought me some no-brand shower radio that never worked right. It could only tune in a couple stations and the clock never kept time. I recently decided it was time to get a 'real' shower radio and I'm very happy that I chose this one. It pulls in lots of stations, the clock and display are great, it is easy to use, and it is well made. The only negative is that the sound sometimes sounds a little muffled, which I'm guessing is due to the waterproof speaker. It's not too bad though and shouldn't discourage you from purchasing this great product.
  • Bought this to replace a Sony shower radio I've had for years. I was amazed at the difference in quality. The sound is superb, it sounds like you have a component hifi in the bathroom. I use it mostly, but not only, to listen to the news, and the voice quality is amazingly clear. The volume can be set very loud with no distortion. One great little feature that is not described well in the listing is that the FM antenna in the back swings around to become a beautiful and very solid semi-circular handle for the radio, so you can carry it around the house very easily. FM reception is outstanding, AM so-so, but that's inevitable and due to my location.

Sony ICFC414 Clock Radio

,
Sony ICFC414 Clock Radio
  • I cannot believe how much I love this alarm clock. It is the simplest to program (the alarm), has 3 different dimmer settings for the light, and has 2 separate alarms - one for radio and one for a very pleasing tone.I travel very extensively, and have been forced to figure out literally hundreds of alarm clocks over the years. This one is the best I've ever, ever used.I like it so much I bought 4 of them for our home, and threw away the clocks in every bedroom. For the first time ever, it seems like a designer actually took the time to design a simple, intuitive alarm clock.A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
  • Love the very large LED display and automatic time settings. Power outages should no longer require resetting of the clock. Item turned out to be exactly what I wanted.

Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 (980-000430)

,
Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 (980-000430)
  • I have my Z506 hooked up to my flat screen tv, first let me say that any speakers hooked up to a TV are better than the stock TV speakers. The z506 is perfect for TV and movies and more optimized than the standard 2 speaker/subwoofer PC systems from logitech.I previously had a 2 speaker/subwoofer PC system hooked up to my TV and it was an improvement, but the Z506 is the perfect upgrade. It spreads out the sounds and sound FX over 5 speakers. The sound is so clear, and very true. The subwoofer is also optimized for movies and tv. It provides nice bass tones that work into the total sound. No rattling no obnoxious over powering bass, so the speakers and the subwoofer work well together and one…
  • I usually don't write reviews for products on here, but I felt compelled to after receiving the Logitech Z506 surround sound system.***UPDATE*** (at the bottom)PROS:~SUPER easy to set-up, everything matches up by color.~Sound quality is superb compared to a lot of systems in this price range, especially for a 5.1 system.~Base is FANTASTIC! I honestly can't get over how awesome the subwoofer is, and best of all -- NO DISTORTION!~Since this is a tweeted system, you don't get distortion from the speakers like you would with a lot of other systems in this price range.~RCA capable (meaning you can directly connect it to your Audio Out on the back of the TV).~The ported down idea Logitech did for…

VIZIO VSB200 Universal HD Sound Bar

,
VIZIO VSB200 Universal HD Sound Bar
  • We recently purchased a new Vizio LCD TV for the bedroom. The TV is fantastic, but the sound quality is thin as is the case with almost all LCD TVs. When I found out the price of this Vizio soundbar and saw the reviews, I came to the conclusion that this is a no brainer. It produces surprisingly broad sound without a sub-woofer (a sub-woofer in a bedroom seems like overkill anyway). It fills the space wonderfully.A few pointers:The is an enclosed set of speakers with an amplifier. The soundbar does not provide any treble/bass/equalizer control over the sound. Thus, it simply broadcasts the sound based on the input source. Modern TV's tend to have very good audio controls for treble and bass.…
  • If you have one of these...you need to remove the speaker grille. Look on the lower right side and you'll notice an opening for the LED indicators, but they failed to create one in the framing to accommodate the IR receiver. A few snips with some sidecutters and you can solve the problem. My remote now works flawlessly from all angles at a considerable distance.I have no room or need for a subwoofer in this application and this sound bar was perfect, at the price I could not pass it up.

PYLE-PRO PPSJ15 - 15ft. 12 Gauge Professional Speaker Cable Speakon to 1/4''

,
PYLE-PRO PPSJ15 - 15ft. 12 Gauge Professional Speaker Cable Speakon to 1/4''
  • These cables are ok, I don't know if its the input on the Pyle speaker or the cable itself but they fit very loose, and cause a lot of static and cutting out when I used them at my first event. I guess for the price they are ok but I was a little dissapointed in usability.
  • The reviewers who complain about durability must have gotten defective cables. Mine are rock solid, hefty, and make great connections. Extremely well built -- better than cables I've bought at three times the price. Pyle is fantastic at delivering quality economically.

Samsung HW-E450 Wireless AirTrack Sound Bar

,
Samsung HW-E450 Wireless AirTrack Sound Bar
  • This product sounds great, I could not imagine needing anything louder! My living room is 20x14ft opening into the kitchen on the end which is the same size. I was afraid that filling that much space with audio would be trouble, but this system does it very well! The volume goes to 50 (I think), but I keep it at 16-20 and it almost seems too loud still! The subwoofer is not booming, but is sufficient. You will feel car doors shutting, explosions, and basslines in songs. I have it placed directly against my couch which means I can feel the bass. One thing that sold me on this unit is the wireless subwoofer, it really makes a difference being able to place this close to where you sit.Bluetooth is…
  • I started with just the speakers in my TV. I knew that the sound from those wasn't good... and I'm not an audio-file... but I didn't expect to be able to tell so much of a difference right away with the first movie we popped in.This is a great system. Easy to install, wireless sub makes that simple, great crisp high end, with enough bass to make you feel it.I wasn't sure I would use the Bluetooth feature... but pairing is easy to my devices, and works great. Now I want more BT capable speakers for other rooms. The system does turn on automatically with my Blu-ray player, but my Samsung Blu-ray remote does not play well with the new speakers. I would like this to be more of an extension of my…
