- Bought for surrounds, I connected these temporarily as "fronts" for break in. Three things became immediately apparent . . . the "omni" radiation pattern works, they are remarkably "clear", and they are deficient in bass when "out in the room". The latter two characteristics lead to "turn them up", and if you secumb to the temptation they become too bright. With a subwoofer, though, they perform *way* above their price . . . so much so that it seeems almost a waste to delegate them to mere "surround" duty. I've ordered another one to play with as a "center" . . . though it too will eventually be "wasted" as a "rear surround".The significantly lower price (compared to the "Piano Black" and "Rosewood" versions) makes these even more a bargain . . . the "Maple" finish is quite attractive, although if used in the "front" they should probably be painted flat black…
