- I chose this receiver because it had 4 HDMI inputs (the previous model had only 3). This left me one spare. 7 weeks after buying the receiver the HDMI sound on the "Set Top Box" input failed. I swapped cables and nothing helped. I switched the set top box cable to the "Game" input and it all worked fine again - except I no longer have a spare available HDMI input, all inputs are now used. I can no longer return the receiver to Amazon (30 day limit on returns) and if I want to get it fixed I will probably have to deal with Sony warranty service. - I was leary about ordering this receiver after reading some of the reviews especially the ones stating the receiver went into protection mode within seconds of turning it on. I first set up my speaker connections then the HDMI inputs. I thought I had everything connected correctly so I fired it up. The sound level seemed very low, hardly audible so I turned it up a few notches and then BAM!!! It went into protect mode and shut down. I wanted to cry. I reinspected my set up and found one speaker wire that was cross connected meaning I didn't cut it short enough and the positive was touching the negative. Big mistake! I shortened all my speaker wire to a quarter inch exposed wire and reconnected…
